The Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society: Main Activities of 2001
The Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society has been very active since the beginning of the year 2001, the activities started by the launch of a large national awareness campaign from North to South of Jordan starting with Aqaba then Irbid and going downwards to 10 major main cities.

The campaign includes awareness programs and screening of Jordanian women on Hologic Sahara Ultrasound device donated to the society by her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, IOF Patron.
Other activities included lectures to various people of the Jordanian public and Physicians: A WORK SHOP "OSTEOPOROSIS AND MID LIFE CHALLENGES FACING WOMEN " in cooperation with International Healthcare Awareness Network (IHAN) was held on the 26th of April followed by an Open Day on Osteoporosis on the 27th of April 2001. This day was aimed at educating the public, young and old, on osteoporosis through public lecture, a comic play, athletic show, a musical act for children about being healthy, and the cooperation with a dairy company and a couple of medical companies who gave samples of their products free for the people. There was a panel of doctors, who gave immediate answers to questions asked by the people.

The society is always updated with the latest activities of IOF and is always participating in the conferences held worldwide this year JOPS attended the Worldwide Conference of Osteoporosis Patients Societies held in May at Naples, an event that was opened by HM Queen Rania, IOF Patron. JOPS participated in the presentation of a workshop under the title "Doctor Patient Relationship".
JOPS was one of the winners of MSD-IOF award of 10,000 US Dollars for an awareness plan covering Jordan.

JOPS medical members also attended at the IBMS-ECTS Madrid Conference and the IOF business meeting.
JOPS is still working very hard on an educational Program, and another awareness campaign directed at school students among a very well planned educational plan which includes teaches students & period of two years where schools will compete on presenting their views & projects on Osteoporosis prevention & awareness.
JOPS activities planned for WOD 2001
- As a pre-WOD activity, the Jordanian Osteoporosis Prevention Society (JOPS) co-organized a high-profile meeting for medical professionals and the public on October 1st at a Dead Sea resort. The event was honoured by the patronage and participation of HM Queen Rania of Jordan. Supported by the IOF and sponsored by MSD and the French Embassy, the meeting was a major informative and social event. See program (PDF, 32 KB) for detailed information.
- JOPS will continue The Jordanian National Campaign in the 10 main major cities, which was started last February, then in Aqaba, Jerash and Zarqa. This campaign aims to spread awareness among the public about Osteoporosis, as well as the educational program nd SAHARA Bone Density screening for the female population at risk.
- JOPS now is building its own Web Site: www.jops.org, which will be launched in October 20 with big media campaign (TV, Radio and Newspapers).
